Modernizing Medicine (ModMed/EMA) Integration Setup Guide
The Dewy team configures and runs the Modernizing Medicine (EMA) integration for you. Your part is three steps inside ModMed, all of which require a ModMed system administrator.
About the integration
EMA by Modernizing Medicine is a healthcare platform that combines EMR, practice management, and analytics. Connecting it to Dewy keeps your patient records, appointments, diagnoses, procedures, and invoices in sync automatically, which is what powers reactivation, cross-sell, and revenue reporting.
Step 1: Activate the Synapsis API in ModMed
The integration runs on ModMed's Synapsis API, which must be active on your account. If it already is, skip to Step 2.
To activate it, email practicesolutions@modmed.com and request activation of the Synapsis API package. ModMed may charge a monthly fee for API access; confirm pricing with them directly.
Step 2: Enable the Dewy app in the ModMed marketplace
- Log in to your ModMed (EMA) account as a system administrator
- Go to the Integrations section
- Search the marketplace for Dewy
- Activate the Dewy integration
Step 3: Send your integration credentials to Dewy
After activating the app, send the following through the help bubble in the bottom right corner of your Dewy account (not by regular email):
- Tenant: your ModMed URL, for example
yourpractice.ema.md - API Username
- API Password
Once received, the Dewy team finalizes the connection and starts the initial sync.
What to expect during the first sync
ModMed limits API calls to 1,000 per minute. For practices with large patient databases, the initial sync takes 4 to 14 days to complete. Data appears on contact records progressively; recent patients load first.
