How to Send an SMS Campaign

An SMS campaign is a one-time text sent to a list or segment. Use it for a flash promotion, a schedule change, or an event reminder. Automated texts inside your nurture sequences are separate and are built by Dewy.

Before you start

  • SMS must be active on your account. Dewy completes carrier registration (A2P 10DLC) during onboarding. See Getting Started with SMS.
  • Recipients must have given SMS consent specifically. Email consent does not count.
  • Every text is sent as [Practice Name]: your message. Reply STOP to opt out. The prefix and suffix are added automatically and count toward the length.
  • Your first few campaigns may be held for a compliance review before they send.

Steps

  1. Click SMS in the left menu.
  2. Click New Message.
  3. Message name: internal only, for example 2026-10 flash sale.
  4. Sender name: your practice name.
  5. Message content: type the text. Keep your own text to about 120 characters so the full message stays within one SMS segment (160 characters including the prefix and suffix). The editor shows the character count.
  6. Personalize with the first-name field if useful.
  7. Shortened links: turn on. Shortens the URL and enables click tracking.
  8. Attach image: optional. Converts the message to MMS. Keep images under 600 KB, PNG or JPEG.
  9. Recipient list: choose the list or saved segment of contacts who opted in to texts.
  10. Check the phone preview on the right.
  11. Schedule: send now, or set a date and time. Send between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM in the practice's time zone.
  12. Click Send or Schedule.

After sending

  • Open the campaign from the SMS page to see sent, delivered, and link clicks.
  • Replies arrive on the contact timeline. STOP replies opt the contact out automatically.
  • Build a follow-up segment of contacts who clicked, or who did not, for the next send.

Rules

  • Only text contacts who opted in to texts.
  • No more than one promotional text per week to the same list.
  • No protected health information. Appointment type is fine; diagnosis or treatment history is not.
  • No sends before 9:00 AM or after 6:00 PM local time. Carriers block late-night traffic and it damages your sending reputation.
